NH Level Descriptions

GENERAL SPEAKING ABILITY:

The student uses a variety of vocabulary and expressions, but makes some errors in word choice. He stays on task most of the time and communicates effectively; generally, he responds appropriately and keeps trying to develop the interaction. His pronunciation and intonation are usually clear or accurate with a few problem areas.

GRAMMAR for Speaking:

The student still makes mistakes on some basic grammar rules.

VOCABULARY for Speaking:

The student still uses pictures and illustrations for his studies.

PRONUNCIATION for Speaking:

The student has little difficulty pronouncing words with consonants, like (l), (r), (p), and (f). However, he sometimes tends to mispronounce words with sounds like /a/ and /o/.

LISTENING for Speaking:

The student listens to short and simple texts correctly. He can answer questions based on what he had heard. By listening to it once or twice, he can already comprehend the main idea or thought. He can also ask or tell something about some important details.

Fluency for Speaking:

The student can speak correctly in simple exchanges and can manage to interact in an everyday life conversation. He can ask some questions and can give simple instruction. He can also speak well about some topics that are familiar to him. He can express himself quite well but usually commits mistakes in his grammar and correct usage of the word. Sometimes he also mispronounces some words.
