 Male Intermediate Mid Descriptors

IM Level Descriptions

GENERAL SPEAKING ABILITY:

The student does not usually have problems communicating but still misunderstands or fails to communicate his thoughts sometimes. He talks confidently in different contexts, exploring and communicating his ideas. In discussion, he shows understanding of the main points. He begins to adapt what he says to the needs of the listener, varying the use of vocabulary and the level of details. He is beginning to be aware of standard English and when to use it.

GRAMMAR for Speaking:

The student can sense if there’s something wrong in a sentence. He knows well most of phrasal and modal verbs, and he can apply grammatical structures when organizing his thoughts. However, he at times fails to make himself clear in some aspects, especially on unfamiliar topics.

VOCABULARY for Speaking:

The student uses vocabulary confidently & accurately. He can define or give detailed description of most words including some technical words, but sometimes still makes mistakes when communicating.

PRONUNCIATION for Speaking:

The student knows the correct pronunciation of all vowels and consonants. He knows the proper stressing of most words, their intonation and tones, and has knowledge of homophones that helps him identify & pronounce words correctly. He can also differentiate short & long sounds with accurate pronunciation.

LISTENING for Speaking:

The student listens to different texts, exploring and communicating his ideas using correct words and grammar. He can get almost all of the major details when listening to news reports. He can retell and give a detail description of short stories he had listened to. When listening to dialogues or conversations, he can give relevant comments and questions which shows that he had listened carefully.

Fluency for Speaking:
