IH Level Descriptions

GENERAL SPEAKING ABILITY:

The student seldom has problems communicating but occasionally misinterprets or misuses some words. His talk is adapted to developing ideas thoughtfully, describing events and conveying his opinions clearly. In discussion, he listens carefully, making contributions and asking questions that are responsive to others' ideas and views. He uses appropriately some of the features of standard English vocabulary and grammar. He can talk almost fluently and accurately, and can take part in extended conversations or discussions.

GRAMMAR for Speaking:

The student is familiar with almost all areas of English. He can correct his own mistakes and can also explain certain grammar rules.

VOCABULARY for Speaking:

The student is familiar with almost all areas of vocabulary. He can provide sufficient vocabulary to cover almost every circumstance. He can always find a way to describe a word that he doesn’t know, and he knows well of idiomatic expressions, phrasal verbs, slang. He has basic knowledge of business vocabulary that helps him to deal in an English business environment.

PRONUNCIATION for Speaking:

The student uses appropriate intonation and stress for specific situations. He is familiar with Emphatic stress and minimal pairs. He has knowledge of voicing and syllable length that helps him identify words correctly.

LISTENING for Speaking:

The student listens to a wide range of texts including some that are of formal nature. He can listen to reports about a variety of topics and work on exercises that include listening for details and synthesizing information from different listening materials. He can listen to news, simple movie trailer, speeches, etc. and can give the gist of what he had listened to using appropriate words and correct grammar in an organized idea.
